The Pacific Rhododendron is Washington's state flower. It grows from southern British Columbia to northern California, west of the Cascades and it can reach to about 20 feet in height. The pink (sometimes white) bell-shaped flowers grow in showy clusters that bloom April to May.
Although many gardeners prefer the variety of rhododendron flower colors in cultivated varieties, our native rhodie, with its bold green leaves and spectacular flower clusters, can find a place in both wild settings and more traditional landscapes.
